Final Project Information
Your final project grade in 8th grade language arts will be based on your contributions to this wiki, where you will work with other students to determine important, interesting, and relevant information in categories that cover the major topics explored during the 2008-2009 school year. This forum is particularly wide open, which means that this project also requires that you take responsibility for your own learning both during the year and throughout this unit. You may add content to your pages that we covered in class (definitions, examples, helpful websites, projects that you completed during the school year…) but you can also delve more deeply into a subcategory that we didn't have time to explore or that fits your particular interests.
Each day, you will receive specific tasks. These tasks must be completed to receive your final project grade.
Tasks will be displayed on the "Welcome" page, but will also be archived in the menu on the left side of the page in case you miss class. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to visit the website and make up these tasks. I am available before school, after school, and during advisory if you have difficulties making up these assignments.
Important Information to Note
Please type all text into Microsoft Word and save before entering into this site. If another student edits the page at the same time, you may be "locked out" and will need to wait to post your work. Saving work and text in a file will prevent you from losing content and not getting credit for your work. This is good practice in general, since Internet connections and computers can be unreliable and you need to have additional record of any work you have done for this site in case it is lost.
The rules of the school and classroom also apply to this website. This means that you must keep your comments, posts, and any other information appropriate (including 'inside jokes') or you will subjected to the same consequences.
I will track your edits and contributions to each page and view information you have posted, as well as any information (yours or someone else's) that you have deleted. It is critical that you demonstrate your ability to work independently and responsibly. If anyone involved with this site finds that you are abusing this forum, you will not be able to work on this project and will instead work on a customized grammar unit during the length of this assignment.
