You could stand at the front of any class and see and least 50% of the class texting. I don't understand why they can't just give of the priviliges. It doesn't distract anyone, does it?
Well, it is kind of distracting when you hear the clicks coming from all around you. But you make a good point. Lots of people, easily a majority of the class, do text during class. However, why they're not allowed is easy. Simply~ cheating on assignments and tests. If texting was allowed, people could easily cheat, and if a calculator wasn't allowed, use a calculator, and access bluetooth files (I know of one room where kids can get on bluetooth and access the teachers computer). I think they shouldn't be allowed in class, but in the halls and between classes, and lunch and stuff for sure.
Ok, well, I really like my phone and keep it with me, but off. And yeah, people text in class. But, even though I want my phone in class, I still agree that it shouldn't be allowed. No matter what people say, they still will cheat, and potentially distract other students. I do, however, think that phones should be allowed in the halls and in school but not classes.

you should snitch cause if the teacher finds out themself they get even more mad if than you just tell on the other person.
I have a couple reasons why cell phones should be allowed. Cell phones should be allowed because it is the students own fault that he/she is not paying attention in class. Another thing is what if a crazy student comes to the school with guns and is shooting at people, that could save students lifes by being able to call someone to help. School shootings lately havent been that unheard of.
i feel it's people's choice. if they want to listen good, but if they don't, it's not the other students or teachers problem. and i have actually never witnessed students cheating on tests with cell phones.
